The Northford-North Branford Women's Club sponsors fundraisers throughout the year that support a number of local charities, including the North Branford Food Pantry, Atwater & Edward Smith Libraries, North Branford Scholarships, North Branford Land Conservation Trust, Honor Them With a Flag Veteran Program, Ronald McDonald House Trees of Hope, and so many other wonderful organizations.
Our club decorated and donated a wreath, themed "It Takes a Village" for the 34th Annual Trees of Hope. This event benefits children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut while a family member is in the hospital. Our wreaths included a $50 gift certificate for DJ Comics, and a $25 gift certificate each for Amazon and Target. Over 140 beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and gift baskets were displayed in early December at the Maritime Center in New Haven.
The revenue generated from Trees of Hope directly benefits the families that stay at RMHCT year round. Since opening in 1985, RMHCT has served 10,000 families from 130 Connecticut communities, 43 states, and 36 countries. Each RMHCT guest room and accompanying services costs approximately $125 a night to provide. Given that families seeking specialized treatment are facing the steep financial hardships that often accompany illness, these families are asked to donate only a minimal amount of $15 per night for their stay. Many families seeking residence at RMHCT cannot afford even this modest fee. However, no family is ever turned away by RMHCT due to the inability to pay. This is possible, in part, because of the revenue generated through Trees of Hope.
